March 1, 2024 – CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and SES inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a strategic partnership to explore providing satellite connectivity using SES’s Medium-Earth-Orbit (MEO) and Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) satellites for businesses and communities in Malaysia. Under this MoU, CelcomDigi, through its subsidiaries, will collaborate with SES to explore the development of a local gateway for Satellite Communication (SatCom) services in Malaysia. Both SES and CelcomDigi will explore harnessing SES’s GEO and MEO satellites with CelcomDigi’s infrastructure, such as the site operated by Celcom Timur Sdn Bhd, to provide enterprise-grade satellite connectivity services with high throughput, low latency, and a committed service level agreement (SLA). SES owns and operates 70 satellites, out of which 26 are MEO satellites. SES’s MEO satellites orbit 8,000 km above Earth to provide high-performance connectivity services virtually anywhere in the world. CelcomDigi will explore how connectivity services such as 4G, 5G, SDWAN and managed Wi-Fi can be delivered through SES’s satellite technology. Read more
