Seoul, Korea, 27 June 2016: The Asia Pacific Satellite Communications Council (“APSCC”) today announced the launch of a Youth Development Satellite Workshop to be held concurrently with the annual APSCC conference.
The Workshop has been designed to provide a platform for the brightest up-and-coming engineering students to connect with leading satellite and space industry experts and learn more about the opportunities in the sector. The inaugural workshop will be held in collaboration with the APSCC 2016 Satellite Conference and Exhibition at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 4-6 October 2016.
“The space and satellite sectors are going through an exciting period of innovation and change, with the increasing involvement of venture capital and ‘Silicon Valley’ financing,” said Paul Brown-Kenyon, President of APSCC and CEO of MEASAT. “To be able to drive this innovation and harness the opportunities it provides, it is critical for the sector to attract the brightest of our students.”
For its inaugural year, APSCC identified industry experts to present different satcom specialties ranging from ‘Fundamentals Systems & Applications of Satellite Communications’ to ‘Regulation’ to ‘Market Overview’ at the Workshop. Featured presenters include:
- Michael Davis, Co-Director, ISU Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program
- Ali Ebadi, Senior Vice President of Space Systems Development, MEASAT
- Yvon Henri, Chief of Space Services Dept., ITU Radiocommunication Bureau
- Jose Del Rosario, Research Director, NSR
- David Ball, Industry Consultant
Students from Malaysia’s leading technology universities have been invited to attend the workshop scheduled for 6 October. This year’s workshop will be supplemented by a facility visit to the MEASAT Teleport and Broadcast Centre to provide the students with a deeper understanding of the industry through field experience.
