The 21st Asia-Pacific Satellite Communication, Broadcasting and Space Conference & Exhibition, here and after APSCC 2018, the annual event of APSCC was held on 4 – 6 October 2018 at Shangri-La hotel Jakarta, Indonesia. The APSCC 2018 Satellite Conference focused on exchanging information on the new technologies and services strategies for the satellite industry as well as assessing new developments in technology for business breakthroughs in the Asia Pacific region themed under “#SATECHconnect”. High level officers and professionals from the satellite and new space business arenas participated as speakers for the 3-full day sessions at APSCC 2018.
In conjunction with the Conference, the APSCC 2018 Satellite Exhibition was held on 4 – 6 October. 4 organizations participated as exhibitors to introduce their latest technologies, innovations, products and services.
This year, 24 organizations officially sponsored the event through various networking programs and 11 affiliations and media partners supported APSCC 2018.
The 2018 APSCC Awards Ceremony was held on 4th October 2018. Based on a series of criteria set by the Awards Selection Committee, the awards are presented each year to individuals and organizations whose contributions and achievements have been deemed exceptional by the satellite industry and the Awards Selection Committee, consisting of industry experts. The ‘Satellite Executive of the Year in the Asia-Pacific Award’ was presented to Bogi Witjaksono, President Director of Metrasat and the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was presented to Adi R. Adiwoso, President & Chief Executive Officer of Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, respectively to commemorate their achievements.
The Young Talent Awards, the latest initiative of APSCC to ensure a healthy future for the satellite industry and to attract and retain young talent to the satellite and space industries in Asia-Pacific region, was held on 6th October. The APSCC Young Talent Award was created to give the best of the young staff encouragement and public recognition of their contributions to the Asia-Pacific satellite and space community. The finalists of the 2018 APSCC Young Talent Award were Rezki Erdian of TELKOM Indonesia, Conrad Chee of MEASAT and Risdianto Yuli Hermansyah of TELKOM Indonesia. Among these 3 finalists, Conrad Chee received the full scholarship of the Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program.
The APSCC-ISU Youth Development Workshop was held on 4 October in conjunction with the APSCC 2018 event. The Youth Workshop was created for the brightest up-and-coming students in Indonesia to connect with leading satellite and space industry experts and to learn more about the opportunities in the satellite and space sector. This one day workshop consists of educational sessions including Satellite Communications Fundamentals, Satellite Communications Regulation, and Satellite Telecommunications Market Overview and a hands-on activity.
Overall the APSCC 2018 event in Indonesia gathered about 405 attendees from 160 companies of 24 countries.
